The Indiana Ice won their fourth consecutive playoff game and took a 1-0 series lead over Green Bay in the East Division finals with a 2-1 victory over the Gamblers last night from the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI.

Ice goaltender Casey DeSmith continued his torrid play in net as the first-year USHL netminder stopped 29 of 30 shots, including 17 in the third period alone. The Rochester, NH native earned his fourth straight playoff win and his four-game numbers include a 1.34 goals-against-average and a .959 save percentage.

"Casey is playing really good hockey right now," said Ice head coach Jeff Blashill. "He is a very talented goaltender who is taking the ball and running with it."

After a scoreless first period, the Gamblers struck first when Ludwig Karlsson scored at the 15:00 mark of the period. Indy tied the game late in the period as Chris Martin registered his first marker of the playoffs scoring with just two minutes left in the middle frame. Brian Ferlin earned an assist on the goal giving him three points (G, 2A) in his last two games.

The third period game-winner came off the stick of Alex Wideman who took passes from Blake Coleman and John Parker to score his second of the playoffs.

"One of our strengths is our team depth as we are getting goal scoring contributions from everybody in our line-up," said Blashill. "Getting goals from guys like Martin and Wideman tonight is not surprising as we feel we can receive scoring from multiple people and that becomes a key factor in the playoffs."

Green Bay outshot Indiana 30-23 in the contest and both clubs went 0-2 on the power play.

"This is a battle between two great teams and we will have to play even better next game," said Blashill. "But, we are excited for that opportunity come Sunday."

Game two is Sunday at 4:05 pm from the Resch Center in Green Bay, while game three shifts to the Pepsi Coliseum next Friday at 7:05 pm.
