LEE, GAMBLERS EVEN SERIES AT ONE WITH 9-4 WIN OVER ICE ON SUNDAY IN GREEN BAY

04-18-2010

The USHL's Rookie of the Year was on display Sunday afternoon. Green Bay forward Anders Lee registered four goals, one assist and a (+7) plus/minus rating to lead the Gamblers to a 9-4 home victory over the Ice in game two of the East Division Finals.

Despite the loss, Indy returns home with a 1-1 split and a chance to win the series at home next weekend.

Green Bay did all the damage needed in the first period erupting for five goals, including a hat trick (three goals) in the frame from Lee. Overall, the flood gates opened in the first as the two teams combined to score seven goals in the period.

Lee began his spectacular day putting the Gamblers on board first at 2:42 of the first. Indy tied it at one when Kevin Goumas took a pass from Antti Roppo and scored at 5:39 of the period. Green Bay retook the lead just 20 seconds later when Ryan Furne found the back of the net with an assist from Lee. The Ice evened the score once again at two when Bryon Paulazzo potted a goal with an assist to Alexander Kuqali at the 7:03 mark of the first.

The Gamblers then strung together three straight goals to take a 5-2 advantage to the first intermission as Lee, Alex Kubiak and Lee all had markers.

Indy narrowed the gap to 5-3 early in the second as Kuqali scored off a feed from John Parker. Green Bay extended their lead back to three when Furne connected for his second of the contest midway through the stanza giving the Gamblers a 6-3 lead at the close of two periods.

Lee scored goal number four early in the third increasing Green Bay's advantage to 7-3. After Shane Berschbach scored from Nick Bailen to reduce Indy's deficit to 7-4 at the 8:10 mark of the period, the Gambers lit the lamp for two more scores to close out their offensive goal-scoring barrage. Reed Seckel and David Makowski were credited with the game's final two tallies.

After Lee's five-point outing, Green Bay also received four-point afternoons from Seckel (goal, three assists), Makowski (goal, three assists) and a three-point game from Furne (2G, A).

Steve Summerhays posted the win in net for the Gamblers with 23 saves, while Casey DeSmith and Cab Morris shared time between the pipes for Indiana. DeSmith stopped 8 of 13 to start the game, while Morris made 15 saves on 19 shots in relief.

Green Bay was 1-3 on the power play, while the Ice went 0-6. The Gamblers outshot Indiana 32-27 in the win.

The series now shifts to the Pepsi Coliseum next weekend for games three and four on Friday and Saturday. Face-off is 7:05 p.m. both nights.
