INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The Indiana Ice announced today that forward Shane Berschbach will play his collegiate hockey at Western Michigan University this fall.
The Clawson, MI native joined the Ice in 2008 and was a key contributor for two seasons with the Ice. He was a member of the Indy’s 2009 Clark Cup Championship team and he produced 79 points (32G, 47A) in 98 career games with the Ice.
The offensive winger heads to Kalamazoo, MI and joins former Ice head coach Jeff Blashill who was named head coach at “Western” in late April. The two were together for two seasons in Indy which included the 2009 Clark Cup Championship.
Western Michigan has had some notable individuals at the NHL level including current Calgary Flames forward Jamal Mayers, former New York Islanders goaltender Glenn Healy and former general manager of the New York Rangers and New York Islanders, Neil Smith. WMU is part of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and faces teams such as Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan and Notre Dame.
The Indiana Ice is a member of the United States Hockey League, America’s only Tier One League.
