The Harris Reading Caravan serves as a flagship community service program by way of the Indiana Ice Bigfoot Foundation – a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization aimed at providing continued goodwill in our community through the spirit of hockey.
The goal of this school-based initiative is to reach out to elementary students (Grades 2 & 3) throughout the Indianapolis-area by having Ice players visit classrooms to read to and with students. Through this mentoring program, students are encouraged to attain specific reading levels during the season with various rewards provided for reading achievement. At the end of the season, top readers are recognized at an Indiana Ice game.
